Cheap Minisite Development

05/07/09 1:50 PM

If you don’t shop around, you might not end up getting the best bang for your buck in a minisite developer. It’s tempting to go with one of the big name minisite developers, however you’d be surprised how much you can save by visiting domain, webmaster, and freelancer forums and websites. As an example, I was browsing through  the Namepros Developers for Hire section and noticed one minisite developer (username: www.DONT.net on Namepros) who was doing a surprisingly good job for $20-$35 per minisite, whereas others have charged $200+ for minisites of comparable quality.

The cheapest minisites would of course be made using a free service like Whypark and you writing your own content. Another option would be to hire a copywriter to create the content for your Whypark minisites — there are some pretty good copywriters out there for just 2-3 cents per word.

I hate to spam your comments but I can’t find a contact section. I got my website up over the weekend. I have about an hour into it so it will be much better looking and better commentary soon (remember wallstreetfighter took a while). Take a look and tell me what you think. http://domainpantry.com I sent you some link love although I have exactly 0 readers if you don’t count my wife. Maybe someday domaining will take me on. Thanks

    Hi Shane,

No problem at all — thanks for sharing your site with us. Your introductory post was fantastic — Working 60-100 hours per week and doing domaining, ironman triathlon training, and having a family to take care of on top of that is nothing short of incredible.

There’s nothing better than blogging about what you love to do and with all your past blogging success, I have no doubt in my mind Domain Pantry will be a success as well :)

I don’t know how someone can do a mini-site with unique content for $20-$35. Seriously, that is crazy pricing. I don’t see how they are not losing money.

  4. Chef Patrick Says:

Shane…come on, DomainPantry.com? That seems oddly similar to my brand of DNKitchen.com which is now ChefPatrick.com.

From your blog it says you special in plant and garden related domains along with 5 letter dot coms. Couldn’t you find a 5 letter domain or something like DomainGarden.com?

  5. Shane Says:

Patrick, I swear it never even crossed my mind. Picked it up after a drop. I envisioned a closet full of names and never thought of it being kitchen oriented. Now I’m going to have to look into changing it. I in no way want it to be affiliated with your site, I can do my own branding and don’t want you to hinder my brand nor be confused with yours. I’ll start looking now

  6. Shane Says:

That was easy. Going to switch to domainshane.com Patrick, I guess I just don’t follow you enough to know your “brand” I got the whole chef thing but never really understood the girls and comic thing and didn’t even know about the kitchen. Luckily I wasn’t too far into it so it should be an easy switch. Hey, want to buy a blog called domainpantry?

  7. Chef Patrick Says:

No worries Shane. I’m sure you didn’t do it intentionally.

I tried searching for DomainGarden.com and DNGarden.com but they are not available. I did a whois and they don’t have an owner. Maybe in the process of a drop or just being purchased. That would be a cool name though. Planting the domains in a garden and watch them grow :)

  8. Chef Patrick Says:

I started out as DNKitchen.com last year and then transferred the brand to ChefPatrick.com in January. Everyone kept referring to me as the chef of the kitchen so I ran with it and it’s done very well.

The girls and comics are for entertainment :)

Good luck with your new blog.

  9. Shane Says:

I just switched it over. It only took 30 minutes to start it up so I switched it all over to domainshane.com . I bust out sites all the time on wordpress but will spend a lot more time on this one. Sorry for the confusion and we should be good now

  10. Dluzional Says:

    Sheez….
a new potential comes in seeking a little direction, and get’s what is perceived as chastised for having a domain?
(my perception, and I don’t speak for any others)

    @ Chef
Why didn’t you just file a URS claim if you felt that domainpantry was infringing on your brand.

while kitchen and pantry do tend to somewhat walk hand in hand, there are far more uses, and potential infringements for kitchen I would think…
what if someone owned a site for building a new kitchen? or renovating a kitchen.
DNKitchen - Darn New Kitchen, the DN doesn’t necessarily or automatically stand for Domain Name, unless you’re in the domaining community, and even that’s a stretch.
    and the examples are endless…

@Shane, I’d go back to using DomainPantry, …if it was that big of a deal, Chef should have thought of it, watched for it and picked it up when it dropped…but he didn’t…so you snooze you lose…

    maybe I’ll register DNBully….hmm..now that’s a thought…

  11. Ray Says:

    You have to be joking.

“Shane…come on, DomainPantry.com? That seems oddly similar to my brand of DNKitchen.com which is now ChefPatrick.com”

oddly similar? Now all domainers will cry when someone registers a name that is oddly similar? Whats next?

  12. Chef Patrick Says:

    @Dluzional and @Ray
I honestly could care less if Shane uses DomainPantry.com or not. I wouldn’t pursue the use of it at all. It was something said in passing in comments and that’s it. I won’t spend the time or energy to fight the use nor send an email to that affect. I think for Shane’s own sake it’s better to use a different name for two reasons. One, so none of my many visitors think he is trying to copy my brand and two to stand out and have his own brand. For me, it makes no difference what he uses and I wish him luck.

  13. Ray Says:

Chef Patrick I do not think he is trying to copy your brand so why would your visitors think such?

  14. Chef Patrick Says:

    @Ray
No offense but because you think a certain way does not mean someone else will. My first thought was the similarity to kitchen. The definition of PANTRY is a small storeroom for storing foods or wines.

The truth of it is Dluzional and yourself made it an issue. Shane had no problem making the switch and I wasn’t going to make any further issue of it beyond my comment.
